Serving At: Latino Ministry of Hatboro, PA
Home Country: Guatemala, Latin America and the Caribbean

The Rev. Lilian (Luky) Cotto is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church assigned through the National Plan for Hispanic/Latino Ministries to new church development in the Eastern Pennsylvania Annual Conference. Born in Guatemala and raised in a Roman Catholic family Luky and her family joined a Baptist church in her late teen years. She came to Methodism while visiting the US as a young adult. Later, she became a US citizen.  She is married to Rev. Dr. Irving Cotto an Ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church and together they have lived for 40 years in Pennsylvania.

Presently, a full time Licensed Local Pastor in the Eastern Pennsylvania Annual Conference, Luky is specifically appointed to the development of a Latino Ministry of Hatboro, PA Philadelphia suburb out of Lehman Memorial United Methodist.  Her work has reached out into an area which has as many as 10,000 persons of Latino background. This work includes a worshiping congregation, a Sunday school program, and summer activities for children, faith communities in several homes, evangelistic visitation, ESL classes, GED classes in Spanish, and the ANAWIM project which is a community based music school

From 2000 to 2003 she served as a missionary working with immigrants in the city of Camden in the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference through the Board of Global Ministries’ 10-10-l0 plan. In addition, while in New Jersey she also served as an Associate Pastor at Asbury United Methodist Church along with her husband who was the Senior Pastor.  In 2008 she became affiliated with Lehman United Methodist Church.

Luky earned a diploma as a Bilingual Secretary from the Guatemalan American Institute (IGA) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Phoenix University, Philadelphia Campus, in 2007. Currently she is studying toward a Master of Theology degree through an extension program at the Latin American Biblical University (UBL) in San Jose, Costa Rica. This is a school with close links to The United Methodist Church.

After ten years of serving in Hatboro, PA she developed another Latino ministry about 6 miles from her home base church, at St. Paul’s Church where her husband is the pastor. For a couple of years she has been working on the development of the AMIGOS Community Center a 501c (3) which is one of her many dreams come true.

She helped establish a Tutoring Program also at St. Paul’s. Last August 2019 she became the part time Conference Coordinator of Latino Ministries. Luky says that one of the best things that have happened to her is to have answered the Lord’s call to be a missionary pastor.  In her own words, Luky says:  “The Lord has been very faithful to me. God has blessed all the ministries given to me to develop… I had always dreamed of being a missionary ever since I became a Christian, but the Lord really has a sense of humor. I started out as a missionary, then a local pastor, and now a missionary for a second time. I listened to God’s voice and responded, ‘here I am Lord, use me as you will.’”

Luky and her husband have three adult sons and a granddaughter.
