Nathan M. Whitford is a Global Mission Fellow with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, engaged in a two-year term of service. He was commissioned on Aug. 23, 2019.

The Global Mission Fellows program takes young adults ages 20-30 out of their home environments and places them in new contexts for mission experience and service. The program has a strong emphasis on faith and justice. Global Mission Fellows become active parts of their new local communities. They connect the church in mission across cultural and geographical boundaries. They grow in personal and social holiness and become strong young leaders working to build just communities in a peaceful world.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, USA, Nathan most recently lived in Columbus, Ohio, where he is a member of the Vineyard Columbus Church. He pursued a degree in business management at Otterbein University and Columbus State Community College, Columbus. Nathan has worked within private restaurants, as an online sales specialist, and most recently with AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program, in partnership with Community Development for All People.

Raised Roman Catholic, Nathan began attending Vineyard Columbus in 2017. “At the same time,” he recalled, “I began volunteering at Community Development for All People, a ministry of the United Methodist Church for All People.” Nathan, whose name means “Gift from God,” began a new career “focused on building food sustainability and promoting community interaction in new and healthy ways,” he said. “This journey in the nonprofit sector has taught me many lessons on inclusiveness, healing, sustainability and trusting in the gifts and talents God has blessed me with.” Nathan believes God has called him into ministry, “not because of what I have proven, but because of all those whom God desires to know of his love and compassion for them.”
