Describe the need affecting community
The demographics of Europe have continued to change dramatically in recent years. Germany is a developed Western country and offers hope as well as business opportunities for many persons. The UMC of Germany desires to reach out to the migrant groups which come to Germany - short term persons who transmigrate as well as long-term immigrants. To do this the church has established language and migrant congregations as well as international congregations where the best first or second language is English. The UMC in Germany is small and therefore needs the assistance of others to help provide ministry with the varying groups such as Fiji Islanders, Ghanaians, South Afrikaners, Nigerians, Tongans and other French-speaking Africans, other Africans, Vietnamese, Russian, Portuguese/Brazilians, and Iranians as well as those from England and the USA. Short term persons who transmigrate often do not learn the local language but still need spiritual nourishment. Immigrants who come to stay often desire to have a place called "home" which means worshiping in their traditional style and language. The UMC of Germany understands itself as a connected church and a global church. Therefore it tries to reach out to those who are strangers in a strange land. Most recently there can be found 10 Ghanaian congregations, 1 Vietnamese, 1 Russian, 1 French-speaking outreach, 2 Iranian worshiping group, one Arabic worship group, 1 Portuguese Worship Group and Bible Study, 3 Fijian congregations, 1 bi-lingual congregation and 7 international congregations within the bounds of the Central Conference. There are many smaller group and fellowships that are also forming. Training, support, and leadership seminars are offered for the leaders of these groups. - See more at: http://www.umcmission.org/Give-to-Mission/Search-for-Projects/Projects/3020450#sthash.xZsUt59b.dpuf
How will this Advance project help to address the need?

Resources provided will directly assist in the identifying, educating and training of new leaders in the local church, primarily in the migrant communities. We are supporting that growth and development with new places and styles of worship and new faith development communities all of which are in turn are transforming the church in Europe.

Describe the primary goal of the project

1) To provide means for the outreach ministries and worshiping fellowships in the Wesleyan tradition with the "strangers in a strange land" in Germany and Europe with the plan to develop resources and training in a different languages each year, 2) To provide annual training on church planting, church leadership and Christian education for the migrant and language ministries; 3) To support cutting edge ministries in the language and migrant churches such as working with asylum seekers, addiction issues, generational concerns, and addressing racism where local budgets cannot stretch far enough. - See more at: http://www.umcmission.org/Give-to-Mission/Search-for-Projects/Projects/3020450#sthash.xZsUt59b.dpuf
