Developing an agriculture center in Central Congo
Annual Goal: $35,600.00
Year to Date Gifts: $55.00
Our goal is to alleviate a serious malnutrition problem and create economic development for the central Congo. Sustainable farming has been the focus using animal traction to allow the people a way to produce food and income. Modern farm machinery is not available in rural Africa and/or could not be properly maintained. Draft animals have been the key, similar to “Amish-style” farming in the United States. Using compost to enrich the soil rather than burning, the farm grows several types of grain, beans, manioc, pineapples, peanuts, bananas, avocados, raises cattle, pigs, chickens, and goats. Has a fish farm with four large ponds, and a large vegetable garden with the focus on highly nutritional food. Goat and cow milk is used to assist severally malnourished children at a nearby medical center. This project have far-reaching possibilities in helping alleviate malnutrition in the Congo. In 2015, our first well was dug to provide fresh water for the people and for farming in Diengenga. Our next capital project is to purchase a truck that could be used to market the farm products and assist in the daily needs of the farm. Our goal is to launch several new farming projects using Diengenga as training center for future leadership.
The purpose of this project is to eradicate hunger and malnutrition in central Congo and encourge enconomic development through sustainable farming. Traction farm, using animals to cultivate the fields, has increased the yield and capacity of the farm exponentially from using manual labor. This method of farming also practices good stewardship of the soil and air seeking to limit the slashing and burning of the rain forest in Congo.
The community would be able to provide sufficient nutritional food for all people eradicating hunger. It would become a model for other villages to emulate, which will provide sustainable agriculture throughout Central Congo especially where mechanization is not yet possible.
