Building a primary school for boys and girls of Ntambo and the surrounding villages of DR Congo
Annual Goal: $60,000.00
Year to Date Gifts: $100.00
Prior to building this school, these children were bravely traveling long distances to get their education. Not only was this physically and mentally exhausting, it was also unsafe. They were walking in areas surrounded by tall vegetation, which creates potential hideouts for criminals, and creatures such as venomous snakes and scorpions. During bad weather, it was even harder to walk due to the mud. These conditions forced the children to drop out of school to care for their younger siblings and join their family in agricultural activities. This project has given an opportunity to escape the hardship of illiteracy, which would have forced the girls to get married at a very young age, and subjected children to hard labor and possibly becoming delinquent. This project empowers the community and its children by giving them a ladder to climb out of poverty into a promising future. This groundbreaking school project eradicates illiteracy among hundreds of children. Currently, there are no educational facilities in this community. Only a handful of these children are bravely walking miles for education, and they quickly give up because this effort is too physically and emotionally exhausting and unsafe as already mentioned. This project helps them fulfill their educational dreams close to home, and under the supervision of adults. It protects them from the inevitable fates of illiteracy, and sets them up for a better livelihood. The project also supplies potable water and proper sanitation, to promote a conducive learning environment for the children. Most of the adults are illiterate as well, so training opportunities will be made available to them so they are able to improve their living conditions, assist their children with school work, and be positioned to better serve their community. This project responds to their call for help. We are committed to building the remaining classes through 6th Grades by the 2016-2017, academic year. Which will start in September 2016, so that we eradicate illiteracy among children.
The primary goal of the project is a step-by-step approach to make the Ntambo and the surrounding villages a better place. By uplifting the children and the community to tap into their potential and sustain good living conditions.
We would like to see a lot of children dressed in blue and white, which are the colors of the uniform for students in a primary school in DR Congo, unsanitary related sickness prevented, a community that is thriving and excited about the future, and increased literacy among the adults as well. We would like to see a community that sustains itself primarily utilizing existing and affordable local resources. This community is connected through very strong family, cultural, and traditional bonds. We would like that to be preserved as the community undergoes other positive changes.
